Farmingdale State College is One of the Safest Campuses in U.S.—Again

Farmingdale State CollegeFarmingdale State College again has been named one of the safest colleges in the U.S. by the online publication The Daily Beast—one of only two SUNY institutions to be included on the list. The campus ranked No. 5 nationally in the study, whose methodology was based on federal crime statistics, student population, off-campus incidents, and other factors. The Daily Beast took the two most recent years of raw data from almost 9,000 schools nationwide and then further analyzed more than 4,000 over more than 50 different criteria, weighing different crimes against each other, and factoring in incidents both on-campus and nearby. Local FBI data was also used to make the statistics as up-to-date as possible. “This distinction is a reflection of the great work done by our professional police force and its leader,” said President W. Hubert Keen, referring to the State University Police officers who patrol the campus and University Police Chief Marvin Fischer.
