Oheka Castle featured in Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane
The opening scenes of the 1941 classic Citizen Kane were actually filmed at Oheka Castle in Huntington. The film is loosely based on the life of newspaper giant William Randolph Hearst. It was produced, directed, and written by Orson Welles, who also played the lead role of Charles Foster Kane. Oheka Castle serves as Kane’s luxurious estate, Xanadu, and the film begins with aerial shots that highlight the mansion’s magnificent roof. Oheka’s garden can also be seen in the film.
