Long Island has a reputation for having high standards when it comes to weddings. Hiring some guy who works out of the truck of his car to provide the entertainment simply will not do. Or so you would think, yet some still try and skate by with a bare bones DJ, often at their own peril.
“It’s really your once in a lifetime affair, you want a professional to handle it,” said Adrian Zerla, creative director of West Hempstead-based TLC Entertainment, a one-stop shop for DJs, MCs, photographers, musicians and a full array of event necessities. “We try and keep it intimate. We don’t want to be one of those companies where you’re just a number.”
The firm has been setting the mood for weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, sweet 16s and corporate events for the better part of the past two decades. What makes this company different from the rest? Love.
“I love music, I love people, I love entertaining,” said Zerla, seated in his office on a recent weekday in between appointments with clients while reflecting on a previous weekend’s successful wedding. “If you’re a part of the team, you’re a part of the family and that’s what sets us apart.”
He added: “When they say you if you find something you love you’ll never work a day in your life, I think that applies to this type of job.”
As a guy who started his business when most DJs still used records, Zerla has seen how the industry has changed. “I think in today’s digital age, a lot of people call themselves DJs,” he said, noting the importance of reading the crowd to keep them engaged. “We are more than just DJs, we are entertainers.”
The company also has bilingual staff and recently launched an international event division to cater to LI’s various ethnic populations. “By the time we do our job, we bring two cultures together,” Zerla said, taking pride in what he described as “bridging the gap.”
But regardless of the type of event, the same level of commitment still applies. “The kind of people that work for this company are the kind of people that really love what they do,” Zerla said.

I had tlc work my christmas and end term parties for my job.everyone loved them.they are entertaining and put on a great show.I highly recommend them for anyone.you friends and family will love tlc as their dj`s!
